Minimalist Photography Awards 2025 – Global Prestige, Vorarlberg Roots

The Minimalist Photography Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious competitions in contemporary minimalist photography, has announced its winners. With over 2,600 entries and more than 7,000 images submitted by photographers from across 50 countries, the Awards continue to affirm their place as a leading platform for minimalist visual storytelling.

A Global Contest with Local Foundations

Although celebrated worldwide, the Minimalist Photography Awards is proudly based in Vorarlberg, Austria. This year’s edition highlighted this connection even further: the entire jury panel was composed of respected cultural figures from Vorarlberg’s art and photography scene:

  • Sylvia Janschek – Owner & Director, Sylvia Janschek ART Gallery

  • Matthias Weissengruber – Board Member, Guild of Austrian Photography

  • Leon Boch – Art Director, Galerie am Lindenplatz

  • Milad Safabakhsh – Founder, Minimalist Photography Awards

 Photographer of the Year

This year’s title of Minimalist Photographer of the Year was awarded to Alexandros Othonos for his poetic series Threads of Memory’s. By delicately stitching vintage family photographs with thread, Othonos reflects on memory, time, and absence in a profoundly minimalist way. His work resonated deeply with the jury and earned him the Grand Prize of €2,000.

From Vorarlberg to the World – and Back Again

The Awards not only spotlight global talent but also bring their results home to Vorarlberg. Next year, the winning works will be showcased in a dedicated exhibition organized by Vorarlberg Projects, offering the local community the chance to experience this internationally recognized photography firsthand.

Words from the Founder

Reflecting on the Awards’ growing impact, Milad Safabakhsh, Founder of the Minimalist Photography Awards, noted:

“This year, the Minimalist Photography Awards reached a milestone, with more than 2,600 entries and over 7,000 images submitted worldwide. At a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly entering creative fields, these numbers affirm that photography remains vibrant and continues to inspire artists globally. The winning works of 2025 show that minimalist photography is not only alive, but has become a fundamental language of visual storytelling.”
